International Border Gates From/To Vietnam

Vietnam shares land border with China, Laos and Cambodia. Here is an updated list (year 2013) of all Vietnam’s international border gates by land, waterways and railways from the north to the south. These International crossings are generally open to all foreign nationalities who are in possession of a valid passport and visa. However, they should ask for visa at the embassy of the country you would like to visit before going to one of these gates to cross to another country because it is quite complicated to ask for visa at any below gates.border gate

GATES from/to CHINA

 

Lao Cai Border Gate: Located in Lao Cai Province – Northwest of Vietnam

Lao Cai Border Gate is in the north of Lao Cai City and about 45 km away from Sapa. The gate links Lao Cai Province (Vietnam) with Yunnan Province (China). Especially, there is arailway from here to Kunming, China.

 

Mong Cai Border Gate: Located in Quang Ninh Province – Northeast Vietnam

Mong Cai Border Gate is in the northeast of Quang Ninh Province, 176km away from Halong City and 327km from Hanoi. From Halong City, along the highway 18 to Mong Cai Town, and then across the Mong Cai Border Gate to China.

 

Huu Nghi Border Gate: Located in Lang Son Province

Huu Nghi Border Gate is 17km from Lang Son City centre, and it is 171km to northeast of Hanoi.

 

Dong Dang Border Gate: Located in Lang Son Province – Northeast Vietnam

Dong Dang is the most famous and busiest international border gate which connects Lang Son, Vietnam and Pingxang province, China. Especially, there is a railways from here to Nanning and Beijing, China.

 

GATES from/to LAOS

 

Tay Trang Border Gate: Located in Dien Bien Province – Northwest Vietnam

From Dien Bien Phu City you can ride motorbike on quiet road 279 about 33km to Tay Trang Border Gate and then to Phong Xa Ly District, Laos.

 

Na Meo Border Gate: Located in Thanh Hoa Province – Southwest to Hanoi.

The closest way to Na Meo border gate from Hanoi is about 270 Km and about 100 Km from Mai Chau valley. The gate connects Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam to Houaphan province, Laos. The road to the gate from Vietnamese side is quite rough but the scenery is beautiful.

 

Nam Can Border Gate: Located in Nghe An Province.

The gate connects Nghe An province, Vietnam to Xieng Khouang province, Laos in which there is a peaceful and green plateau.

 

Keo Nua Border Gate: Located in Ha Tinh Province

Keo Nua Border Gate is at the end of Keo Nua mountain Pass from Vietnamese side. This is a popular gate for tourists who want to travel to Vientiane (Laos) from Hanoi.

 

Lao Bao Border Gate: Located in Quang Tri Province ( Central Vietnam)

The gate is about 180 Km from Hue – the ancient capital of Vietnam. Getting up to the north from Hue then turn left to famous road No 9 via Khe Sanh and after the Lao Bao border gate you can head straight to Savannakhet (Laos).

Cha Lo Border Gate: Located in Quang Binh Province

From Vietnamese side, you can have easy ride on smooth road from Ba Don town ( Quang Binh province) to the gate. After the gate you will be in Khammounan province, Laos.

 

Po Y Border Gate: Located in Kon Tum Province ( Central highland of Vietnam )

At Vietnam side from Ngoc Hoi District you can ride along highway 40 about 19km to the gate and then head to Attapeu province, Laos.

 

GATES from/to CAMBODIA

 

Le Thanh Border Gate: Located in Gia Lai Province ( Central Highland Vietnam )

The Gate is about 73km from Pleiku City Vietnam. From Pleiku City along the highway 14, turn to highway 19, pass Chu Ty Townlet, across Le Thanh Border Gate to An Dong Thech (Ratanakiri, Cambodia).

 

Moc Bai Border Gate : Located in Tay Ninh Province ( Southern Vietnam)

Moc Bai Border Gate is about 70km to the northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. There are direct buses from Ho Chi Minh City to Go Dau Townlet in Tay Ninh Province and from here you can go along the highway 22A, across Moc Bai Border Gate to Cambodia.

 

Sa Mat Border Gate: Located in Tay Ninh Province

This is another border gate to Cambodia from Tay Ninh province. Also from Go Dau you go along the highway 22B, across Sa Mat Border Gate to Cambodia.

 

Dinh Ba Border Gate: Located in Dong Thap Province (Southern Vietnam)

Dinh Ba Border Gate is about 107km from Cao Lanh City. From Cao Lanh City, you go along the highway 30 to Hong Ngu Townlet, across Sa Rai Townlet, Dinh Ba Border Gate to Bontia Chak Cray (Prey Veng, Cambodia).

 

Tinh Bien Border Gate: Located in An Giang Province (Southern Vietnam)

Tinh Bien Border Gate is about 25km to the southwest of Chau Doc Town, An Giang Province. From Long Xuyen City (An Giang Province) you can go along the highway 91, across Tinh Bien Border Gate to Cambodia.

 

Xa Xia Border Gate: Located in Kien Giang Province (Southern Vietnam)

The gate is about 70km from Ha Tien Town and it connects Kien Giang province of Vietnam to Kampot province, Cambodia.

 

Vinh Xuong Border Gate: (By boat) Located in An Giang Province

Vinh Xuong Waterway Border Gate is 30km north of Chau Doc Town, An Giang Province. From the wharf at Victoria Chau Doc Hotel cruising on Tien River to Vinh Xuong Border Gate ( it takes about 45 minutes by motor-boat) then complete customs and immigration procedure to go to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
